One of the greatest benefits of making the choice to study online is how convenient it is. Since you can work on your online courses at any time and from anywhere with an internet connection, you really are your own boss when it comes to getting through the material. For some this can be a gift and a curse. The lack of a face-to-face instructor placing strict deadlines on you might make it hard to stay motivated. We here at BCA National, one of Australia’s most trusted RTOs, are here to help keep you on top of your studies. Here are a few things you can do to stay motivated while studying online.

Break it down

You’re not going to complete your online Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care in a week. It’s going to take dozens of hours of dedicated time. If you look at the course as a whole, you might get lost in worrying about how you’ll ever cover all of the material. But don’t think about it as one giant block. Instead, break it up into little clusters. Maybe even make a list of these clusters. When you make some headway, you’ll get the satisfaction of crossing something off the list. This will provide with you some visual evidence that you’re chipping away at your chosen course.

Reward yourself

Giving yourself a bit of a treat after you’ve accomplished something in regards to your course is an awesome idea. It generates positive vibes in your brain and connects them to success in your learning. Set yourself little goals and attach a reward to it.  Then as you work towards it you can look forward to that reward.

Discuss what you’ve learned

Just because you’re studying your chosen course online by yourself doesn’t mean you have to keep everything you learn under wraps. Chatting about what you’ve learned can help you understand the course material better and also help show you why what you’re learning is interesting and important. You can have these discussions with your friends or with your support staff – your Trainer or your Training Coordinator.

Stay balanced

Overloading yourself with your course at the expense of spending time with friends and family will make you resent your decision to study online. While you don’t want to totally ignore your learning, make sure you make an effort to give adequate attention to your social life as well so you don’t burn yourself out.

Remember why you’re studying

If you ever get down about your course, just remember why you signed up in the first place. Doing so will most likely make you realise that any struggling you’re enduring is more than worth it if it gives you a chance to escape your dead-end job or helps you progress your career in another way.

In a perfect world, you’ll breeze through your online course with a smile on your face the whole time. But, unfortunately, the world’s not always perfect. There might be times where you hit a bump in the road when it comes to having the motivation to keep studying. Keep these tips from BCA National in mind will help keep you on the right path toward achieving your goals.
